What is Alopecia?

A bout of hair loss which can affect just your scalp or your entire body, and it can be temporary or permanent. It can be the result of heredity, hormonal changes, medical conditions or a normal part of aging. Anyone can lose hair on their head. What was most common with me? Now, seems to be appearing more often with women of color. Alopecia can be split into disorders in which the hair follicle is normal but the cycling of hair growth is abnormal and disorders in which the hair follicle is damaged. Androgenetic alopecia is the most common cause of hair loss in women. There are the 3 types of alopecia?

However, what they don't always know is that there are three main types of the condition, alopecia areata, alopecia totalis and alopecia universalis.

Actress Jada Pinkett Smith, and  many women of color are experiencing alopecia at a higher rate. According to a 2016 survey of nearly 6,000 Black women, 47.6 percent of respondents said they experienced hair loss. Because African American women have an array of hair textures

Some of the best hair vitamins for black hair growth and for the growth of other hair types are Biotin (Vitamin B7), Vitamin C and Niacin (Vitamin B3). Two of the best minerals for healthy hair growth are Iron and Zinc.

How you can protect your hair from traction alopecia and prevent further damage:

1. Ask your stylist to create looser braids or dreadlocks.

2. If you have braids, remove them after three months.

3. If you wear a weave or hair extensions, remove them after eight weeks.

4. If you have relaxed or dyed hair, make sure these treatments are applied by a professional. If you still notice breakage or hair shedding, avoid chemical treatments completely.

5. Minimize heat styling, including hair dryers, flat irons and curling irons. These wear out the hair and can lead to major hair loss.

6. Try to deep condition your hair weekly with protein.
