BIG DADDY KANE SPEAKS

When the name, Big Daddy Kane is mentioned. A few things may come to mind. The first for many, would be his lyrics. Kane signed with Fly Ty Williams, Cold Chillin‘ record label in 1987 and was apart of the famous Juice Crew. And of course as we know, consecutive hits would come from Kane and his musical family.

Let’s start with ‘RAW’-

Then there was:

Ain’t No Half Steppin,

Warm it Up Kane, Smooth Operator,

Mortal Combat and Pimpin’Aint Easy.

No one can forget his flow on DJ Marley Marl’s,”The Symphony”. The 1988 hit featured Masta Ace, Craig G and Kool G Rap. The Brooklyn native, even back then, quickly became highly regarded as one of the most talented and skilled lyricists in Hip Hop/Rap music. He made it very easy for that conclusion to be made. Kane’s voice and dominant composure set him aside from his peers. He’s now considered as one of the pioneers in that genre of music. With his career spanning over 30 years and counting. You can’t talk about Rap history without mentioning one of his stage names like, King Asiatic Nobody’s Equal or “Dark Gable”, a spin off of Gone With The Wind Actor, Clark Gable. Giving his female fans something sexy to look at. While the men doted on his incredible verses.

The Grammy Award winner’s musical influence and style is still one that is referenced to today. We talked with the iconic artist in a sit down interview, which can be viewed in its entirety at ‘HEIGHT Magazine TV’ on YouTube.

Paying respect to entertainers and creatives who’ve paved the way before others who’ve now entered the industry, should be executed regularly. While other talented people may have had someone in their perspective fields who inspired them. It’s safe to say. Unique artists such as Kane, was and is still considered as the first to do it [his way]. He’ll forever be placed on top 5 lists for being lyrically one of the dopest MC’S and songwriters in music.

And not just because of the clever rhymes he’s recited on his albums. He has also written for other artists --starting with the members of the Juice Crew. Simply put. There was no other Rap artist that existed where he could have emulated, replicated or imitated (Rap pun intended). Leaving him as the blueprint for the sound, style and stage presence he represents in Hip Hop music.
