Tina Turner The Musical
The producers of TINA: The Tina Turner Musical announced that a multi-year North American tour will launch at the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) in Providence, Rhode Island in the Fall of 2022 and visit more than 40 cities in its first year. A two-week engagement of TINA: The Tina Turner Musical was also announced earlier this year as part of the 2022-2023 Bank of America Broadway on Hennepin Season in Minneapolis. The show will play the Orpheum Theatre starting on March 1-12, 2023, and tickets are currently available through season subscription packages.
Watching this musical is truly an amazing experience. If you haven't read the book? You'll be shocked by some of the story. Much is parallel to the 1993 award winning biopic film, What's Love Got To Do With It starring Angela Bassett as Tina Turner and Laurence Fishburne as Ike Turner. There were a few key events I completely didn't know about. If you haven't read the book or watched the the movie? Do both. I don't want to give anything away. Production was for all accounts fantastic. Nkeki Obi-Melekwe stars as Tina. There are moments where she actually sounds just like Tina herself. Nick Rashad Burroughs plays Ike Turner. Vocally he carries his weight and also does a great job portraying the musician. A lot went down in Tina’s life. Recapturing some of her greatest hits and dance routines had many of the audience members participating, including myself. Needless to say. The brief tour will be appreciated in my opinion. If you are able to score tickets? You’ll be thoroughly entertained from beginning to end.
