The Color Purple “Re-Makes” A Star Studded Return To Theaters

Experience the extraordinary sisterhood of three women who share one unbreakable bond in “The Color Purple.”

New York-“The Color Purple” starts in rural Georgia in the early 1900s and winds through the life and family of Celie (Barrino), an impoverished Black woman who suffers horrific abuse from early childhood — most notably Mister, her husband (Domingo) a brut with a thirst for another woman. Her evolution toward independence in the mid-20th century mirrors the hard-won march toward liberty of women, queer people and colonized nations, all of which figure into the story.

A musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s novel about the life-long struggles of an African-American woman living in the south during the early 1900s. In theaters, December 25th.

The cast is comprised of amazing stars such as; Pop icon Ciara is playing adult Nettie, Louis Gossett Jr. is Ol’ Mister, David Alan Grier is Reverend Avery, Tamela J. Mann is First Lady, Phylicia Pearl Mpasi is Young Celie, Deon Cole is Alfonso, and Stephen Hill is Buster. Plus, Aunjanue Ellis is playing Mama, Celie and Nettie’s mother, and Jon Batiste is making his feature film debut as Grady, Shug Avery’s husband.
