American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson wins world championship 100-meter title
Sha'Carri Richardson ran past the fastest sprinters in the world Monday to win the women's 100 meter at the World Athletics Championship in Budapest.
She ran from behind and past Jamaicans Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, the defending world champion, to win with a time of 10.65 seconds.
"I'm honored, I'm blessed, I had great competition, which pulled the best out of me, and I'm just honored to leave with a gold medal," she told reporters after the race. Richardson promised to keep working and improving.
"I'm going to stay humble," she said. "I'm not back. I'm better, and I'll continue to be better."
