DeVon Franklin’s Audible Memoir “It Takes a Woman”

The Audible Original introduces DeVon Franklin’s listeners to his amazing village of strong women who supported, nurtured and raised him and his brothers. But, more importantly provided core values with DeVon, which shaped him into the man he is this very day. Officially launched in April. DeVon Franklin’s Audible Original It Takes a Woman honors six matriarchs in his life. Narrated by Franklin himself, his mother Paulette Franklin, Aunt Nuna, Aunt Ida, Aunt Enis, Aunt Donna and Aunt Sondra. You actually get to hear their own stories and vibrant personalities. I had the honor of sitting in on a roundtable with Franklin and his amazing village. It’s very easy to say that DeVon truly hit the mark by creating this memoir for- and with his villagers. The genuine love and support surrounding this family is such a joy to experience. Yes, you’ll get choked up when listening to some of the stories and smile while hearing the others. But, you’ll also get to know why and how the authenticity of DeVon’s nature is filled with light and wisdom. While I didn’t have the opportunity to ask my questions, (it was a lot of us/media present) I can say this. It felt like I was in a room with my own aunties! It Takes a Woman is such a necessary element for the entire family. But, especially when it comes to African American men, older and younger. Revisiting some of this tight knit family’s history explored traditions and the importance of faith and understanding can do and transform. It really does in fact take a village. And in this case? A foundation provided by loving women. It Takes a Woman is available on Audible by Amazon. + EID Rae Ashe
